Under the research of such leading institutions as RMIT University, Melbourne Australia and McMaster University, Hamilton Canada, and in joint with scientists from Nestlé Research Center, this collective will conduct research to study nutrition and exercise, and their effects on muscle mass. The study will focus on young and aging adults, and will include clinical trials assessing optimal protein and exercise regimes for maintaining skeletal muscle in healthy adults in conditions of negative energy balance, according to a press release distributed by Nestle late last month.
“The cutting-edge research methodologies that will be used in these human clinical trials can only be done in select places in the world.” said Dr. Trent Stellingwerff, Nestlé Research scientist involved in the project.
This will mark the first steps taken by a leader in providing functional foods and beverages to consumers to enter the world of sports nutrition. By performing this research, Nestlé hopes to gain an insight in helping maintain muscle mass and strength, and take part in this multi-million dollar industry.
