In addition to its strong antioxidant properties that benefit such ailments as high blood pressure, low blood sugar and high cholesterol, green tea has been recently studied by a group of scientists who have reported findings in helping to fight glaucoma. A press release from The American Chemical (ACS) referencing their Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry: “Green Tea Catechins and Their Oxidative Protection in the Rat Eye” reported “first documenting how the lens, retina, and other eye tissues absorb these substances raises the possibility that green tea may protect against glaucoma and other common eye diseases”.
According to the Glaucoma Research Foundation everyone from babies to senior citizens is at risk for glaucoma. It’s estimated that 4 million Americans have glaucoma, but only half know they have it. Approximately 120,000 are blind from glaucoma. This will mark yet another studied that may eventually add to the mounds of scientific proof that dietary and nutritional supplements can make a strong impact in the treatment and cure of diseases affecting people across the globe.
