President of the Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN), Steve M. Mister testified last month in Washington on behalf of the dietary supplement industry. The hearing entitled “Dietary Supplements: What Seniors Need to Know” was set forth by the United States Senate Special Committee on Aging to discuss a number of issues when it came to marketing and manufacturing of dietary supplements.
"The dietary supplement industry is committed to manufacturing and marketing high quality, safe and beneficial products that have a valuable role in a wellness regimen. This industry is likewise committed to ensuring consumers receive truthful, accurate and non-misleading information on dietary supplements,” Mister stated at the hearing.
Mister went on to discuss the benefits of the newly proposed legislation by Senators Orrin hatch (R-UT) and Tom Harkin (D-IA) of providing more financial support and accountability by the Food and Drug Administration. The committee also discussed other issues such as self-regulation, and trade and industry associations.
